RELATIVE CLAUSE

Function

 Das ist der Mensch. Er ist gestern vorbeigekommen.A relative clause connects two sentences and  
 Das ist der Mensch, der gestern vorbeigekommen ist.     gives more details to the description of a noun.



Sentence structure

1) A relative clause is a subordinate clause and it is placed directly after the word which it defines.
2)The relative pronoun agrees with the noun which it refers to in gender and number.
3) It agrees with the verb in the relative clause in case.
4)When a verb with a preposition is used, the preposition precedes the relative pronoun.
5) When a relative pronoun in the genitive case is used, the following noun doesn’t have an article.





Punctuation:
There is always a comma before and after the relative clause.
