Functions

Every noun can occupy different positions in the sentence and so be in different cases. The case is determined by the verb, by the
preposition or by some other noun.

* masculine and neutral nouns get the ending –s or –es (with one-syllable nouns and nouns that end in –s, -ß, -z, -x) in the
genitive case. Except: n-declination.
** all nouns get the ending –n/-en in the dative plural. Except: nouns that end in –n and nouns that have the ending –s in plural
(in den Parks).
